Humber Class What’s Happening This Week Commencing 5th March 2018

Team Humber –  What’s Happening This Week

(Week Commencing 5th March 2018)

In Humber this week we are learning the following:

English:

In English this week we are studying focussing on diary entries, and writing different diaries for the characters in our class novel ‘Kiss the Dust. We are working with Mr Jackson in drama to improve our writing.

SPaG/Phonics:

In spelling, punctuation and grammar we are working on the passive voice, and modal verbs. We have been practising writing passive voice sentences to include in our writing. (by zombies!)

Maths:

In maths we are looking at algebra and number sequences, as well as revising the content covered so far this year.

Maths Basics:

Maths basics  are key skills/facts children need to know.  In maths basics this week we are focusing on decimal – fraction – percentage equivalents. Test your child to see how many they know!

Creative Curriculum:

In creative curriculum this week we are focussing on research around our key text. We will be looking at the stories and experiences of refugees.

Homework:

Homework is set every night.  From Monday to Thursday children will have:

  • A short maths sheet (between 4 and 6 questions).
  • Reading for 10 minutes (+ one more reading over the weekend)
  • A short English task (3 sentences).

Spellings are learnt in class but if you could help with practising at home, this would be brilliant. This week’s spellings are:

excellent

profession

dictionary

vehicle

suggest

artificial

substantial

occur

Knowing times tables and number bond (pairs of numbers to 10/20 and beyond) well helps children make massive progress in maths so any help you can give your child will be great.  Your child has a Number Gym log in and password in their planners and if they could go on Number Gym at home, even for 5 minutes, it will really help them have a secure knowledge and faster recall of times tables and number facts.
