Welcome to Darwinian class.
Our teacher is Mrs Pinto and we also have Miss Ashcroft, Miss Allinson and Miss Readshaw in our class.
On Wednesdays afternoons, we have others teaching in our class. Mr Holt teaches us PE and Mrs Taylor teaches us R.E.
Every morning we come into class and register.
We then do guided reading activities, sometimes in small groups and sometimes as a whole class.
Following this we all do Literacy together, before break-time at 10:45.
After this, we do Maths.
After lunch, we do a variety of activities linked to our topic, including art, history, geography, science and design technology. During the afternoon, we have an additional break for fifteen minutes.
At home time, after tidying up, we then usually have a story together, or sometimes we play a short team-building game together.
Remember, if you have any questions, however small, please pop into see me at home time.
Additional Information about Subjects
Computing We have computing each week, where we do a variety of activities, including programming, e-mailing and research skills. We also do a lot of work around being safe on the Internet.
We have music in the hall on Thursdays with Mrs McCartney and this is followed up with singing in the hall before we go home.
Reading – Children take part in guided reading sessions every day. We listen to children read in groups and these sessions give the children time to listen to others read, question and be questioned about what they have read and how the author has written in a certain way. Because we make notes on these sessions in guided reading folders, we do not write them up in the children’s planners.
Individual reading books can be changed by your child daily. Reading is part of your child’s homework. Please would you listen to your child read so that you can ask him/her questions and help them improve their understanding and fluency. We would be grateful if you could then write a note in their planner to say they have read to you.
P.E. This is usually on Wednesday and Friday. Please ensure your child has a named P.E. kit in school.
Homework– Homework projects will be set every few weeks linked to our topic. Children will also be set spellings for each week and daily reading.
