Year 1: This week we are reading lots of poetry and we will be exploring the word choices as well as performing some of the poems.

Reception: This week we are reading the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  We will be re-telling the story and performing some drama.

Numeracy

Year 1: In maths we are exploring subtraction.

In Reception we are learning about Money.

Phonics

Year 1:. We are learning the split digraph e-e.

Reception: We are learning the sound oo as in book.

Spellings this week (Year 1)

Our challenges this week are about weather.  

We will also be finding out about healthy eating in Reception.

In Year 1 this week we are writing instructions.  We will be learning about Chinese New Year and making our own Chinese dumplings.

In Reception we will be learning about the Great race and writing our own race story.

In maths we are learning how to subtract using different methods.

In Reception we are learning about ordinal numbers-first, second, third etc…

This week we are writing our own dinosaur stories and learning about Diwali.  We will be also be reading the story of Rama and Sita and sequencing the story before re-telling it in our own words focussing on writing the story with a beginning, middle and end.  We are working hard to ensure our sentences have a conjunction and an adjective.

Numeracy

In maths we are learning about tens and units in numbers as well as recapping over what we have learnt about pairs of numbers which total ten.  We will be looking at fractions of shapes and objects in our maths carousel.

In Reception we are learning how to use the part part whole method to help us find the total of two numbers as well as looking at patterns linked to our Diwali celebrations.

Phonics

This week we are learning uor split digraphs: a-e, e-e, o-e, u-e and i-e.

Year 1:. We will also be practising spelling our common exception words.

Reception: We are learning the first set of sounds in phase 3 this week, they are j, v, w and x.  We are really trying hard to segment words which will help us with reading new words and spelling.

We found out lots of facts about dinosaurs before the holidays and now we are ready to start planning our own dinosaur adventure story this week.

We will also be learning about Bonfire Night and the Gunpowder Plot as well as Remembrance Day.

Numeracy

In maths we are learning about the position of numbers to 20 this week looking at where they sit on a number line and the value of the tens and ones in a two digit number.  We are also learning to count in 10’s.

In Reception we are learning all about number 10 and how it is made up.  We will be looking at pairs of ten and we will also be exploring one more and less than with numbers up to 10.

Reception: We are learning the final set of sounds this week in phase 2: f, l, ff, ll and ss  we will be learning how to read these in words.

We have been writing our own fact sheet about a Guinea Pig last week as we are hoping to get a class pet.  This week we will be writing a persuasive letter to Mrs Fletcher to see if we can get a pet. We will also be discussing ways to raise money to look after our pet as part of our enterprise project.

Numeracy

In maths we have been learning about addition and subtraction and we will be looking at fact families as well as extending out numbes to 20.   We are also continuing to practise counting in 2’s and beginning to count in 10’s.

In Reception we are learning all about the numbers 9 and 10  We will be looking at where it is on the numberline and how we can make 9 and 10 in different ways..

We had a bit of a change to last weeks plan following the arrival of the eggs in our forest schools area.  We wrote our own news reports and explored what we thought had laid the eggs. This means there is still time to bring in your photos of your pets as we will be talking about our pets this week as well as finding out lots about dinosaurs.  We will be writing our own ‘how to look after a dinosaur’ fact sheets.

Numeracy

In maths we are learning about the position of numbers on a number line.  We will also be estimating where numbers sit on a line. We will also be looking at counting in 2’s.

In Reception we are learning all about the number 7 and 8  We will be looking at where it is on the numberline and how we can make 7 and 8 in different ways..
