I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all of our Key Stage 2 pupils who participated in the Selby Cluster Event on the 14th of November. Your enthusiasm, determination, and sportsmanship were truly inspiring.

It was wonderful to see so many of our children step up to the challenge and compete against their peers from other schools. We had a fantastic turnout, with 35 talented athletes representing our school.

We are incredibly proud of the achievements of our young sports stars. We had several podium finishes, including first, second and third places in various events. Additionally, over 10 of our pupils have qualified for the next stage of the competition in January, where they will face another tough challenge against a different cluster.

Thank you to all the staff who helped to organise and support the event. Your dedication and hard work made it a huge success.

Well done to everyone involved! We look forward to cheering on our team in the next round.

On Monday 15th April, they blasted off on a mission to Kingswood, Doncaster – one of the UK’s most INSANE outdoor centers! Think treetop challenges that reach for the clouds, activities that test your bravery (in the best way possible!), and evenings filled with laughter and fun.

This wasn’t your average school trip. These intrepid adventurers spent three days building their confidence, resilience, and life skills in the most thrilling way possible. They pushed their limits, faced their fears, and emerged stronger and more ready to tackle anything!

Let me tell you, the stories they’re bringing back are going to be LEGENDARY! (Keep an ear out, parents!) One thing’s for sure, Team Elephants had an AMAZING time, and they’re already asking when the next adventure begins! Who knows, maybe YOU’LL be part of the next epic Team Elephants expedition!

A SCHOOL in North Yorkshire has gone from requires improvement to being rated ‘good’ by inspectors with outstanding Early Years provision.

The story goes ‘In a faraway land an arrogant and self-centred prince is magically transformed into a hideous beast. Only a kind-hearted village girl can mend the prince’s ways in time and break the spell!’ The production has marvellous music, captivating costumes and absurd antics.

The children were captivated from the start and enjoyed popcorn and a chocolate treat in the interval.

Year 4 children had an incredible opportunity to visit Selby Abbey. They took part in a project run by Performing Arts which consisted of the children creating their own song all about Selby. The idea was to educate others on the history of our town. Through determination and collaboration, the team created an incredible song that they were proud of. 

The children were given the opportunity to perform their song as well as 5 other songs in Selby Abbey to their parents, joined by other schools from Selby. The children had a fantastic day and we are really proud of their commitment to rehearsing and the role models they were at the Abbey.

Today we have had a wonderful day in school. Everyone looked amazing in their ‘red, white and blue’. We also enjoyed a super coronation party lunch prepared by our talented kitchen team, complete with Coronation cakes. After lunch we were able to enjoy some party moves together in the school grounds – while enjoying a delicious ice-cream provided by the PTA. The afternoon turned out beautiful and the children loved their extended time playing.

The kitchen team provided all the children a lovely ‘King’s quiche’ (bean and spinach of course!) which some children loved and some not so much…… 

Every single child planted a tree in support of the global goal number 13 ‘Climate action’ organised by our pupil parliament which links across the other Ebor Schools. Working collaboratively across 23 primaries can make much more of an impact. They marked their tree with their very own celebratory name label. With the development of the houses where the scrub land used to be made perfect sense for us to plant additional trees around the perimeter of our site. The children loved showing off their tree to their parents at the end of the day.

Students aged between seven and eleven, were provided with individual activity boxes containing a range of learning materials, games and resources they will need to build their robots, the focus of which is on recycling and
forms part of their school curriculum.

The robots are made from recyclable materials that can be found around the house such as bottles, tin cans and cardboard and have been designed to carry out recycling tasks such as having magnetic hands to pick up metal, or built-in compartments to store paper.

To launch the project, students received a presentation from the Drax Community and Education team on recycling and the role everyone plays ensuring the correct waste items enter recycling schemes.

The Drax team then returned a few weeks later to see the results and judge the best robots. The four pupils with the best robots were given lego sets and the school was awarded £250 to purchase STEM resources.

Drax Community and Education Manager, Jane Breach, said: “By providing schools with these resources we hope to further students’ understanding of the importance of recycling and hopefully fire up their imaginations and inspire them to study STEM subjects by showing them the wide range of career options that are available.”

Miss Wynn said: “Creating their amazing robots really sparked the children’s enthusiasm for STEM and drew their focus to the importance of recycling. Activities like these are so important as it brings the subject to life and encourages students to start thinking about careers they might enjoy in the future.”
