Humber Class What’s Happening This Week Commencing 5th February 2018
Team Humber – What’s Happening This Week
(Week Commencing 5th February 2018)
In Humber this week we are learning the following:
English:
In English this week we are studying our new class text: ‘Kiss the dust’ by Elizabeth Laird.
We are exploring some of the characters through drama, and writing an escape narrative piece.
SPaG/Phonics:
In spelling, punctuation and grammar we are focussing on verb starter sentences. .
Maths:
In maths we are looking at perimeter and area, as well as converting between different measurements. Check that your child knows the conversions between mm, cm, m, kg, g, l and ml.
Maths Basics:
Maths basics are key skills/facts children need to know. In maths basics this week we are focusing on decimal – fraction – percentage equivalents. Test your child to see how many they know!
Creative Curriculum:
In creative curriculum this week we are focussing on research around our key text. We will be looking at the stories and experiences of refugees.
Homework:
Homework is set every night. From Monday to Thursday children will have:
- A short maths sheet (between 4 and 6 questions).
- Reading for 10 minutes (+ one more reading over the weekend)
- A short English task (3 sentences).
Spellings are learnt in class but if you could help with practising at home, this would be brilliant. This week’s spellings are:
immediately
frequently
sincerely
cemetery
rhythm
Rhyme
stomach
shoulder
Knowing times tables and number bond (pairs of numbers to 10/20 and beyond) well helps children make massive progress in maths so any help you can give your child will be great. Your child has a Number Gym log in and password in their planners and if they could go on Number Gym at home, even for 5 minutes, it will really help them have a secure knowledge and faster recall of times tables and number facts.
