‘Tic Tac Toe!’

Dear parents,

This year one of our key priorities in school is reading. As you know reading at home has so many benefits and we want to make sure this is having the maximum impact on the children as a result, homework will look different this year. We have invented ‘Tic Tac Toe!’ Tic Tac Toe is a challenge based homework. The children are encouraged to read to you every night. This will be monitored with the ‘5 times reader’ like we did last year. Alongside this the children will have a ‘Tic Tac Toe’ sheet with challenges to complete. The children will pick the challenges they wish to complete and bring in their sheets when they have completed the number stated on the sheet. Once this is complete, the children will get a new ‘Tic Tac Toe’ sheet. The challenges link closely to the national curriculum objectives so can be used as evidence for this too.  

Spellings

The children will bring home new spellings every Friday to practise. The children are no longer required to write a sentence using the words but this is  a good strategy to help learn the spellings. The children will complete a spelling test the following Friday.
